The Antonov An-225 is a strategic airlift transport aircraft which was built by Antonov, and is the world’s largest powered aircraft. It measures 84 meters in length and lifting capacity is 250 tons. Antonov are used for the transport of very heavy loads.

In November 2004, the An-225 got into the Guinness Book of Records for its 240 records. The Antonov An-225 is commercially available for flying any over-sized payload due the unique size of its cargo deck. Currently there is only one aircraft operating but a second mothballed airframe is being reconditioned and is scheduled for completion around the end of this year.

The Airbus Beluga is a version of the standard Airbus A300 wide-body airliner, modified to carry aircraft parts and over-sized or awkward cargo. It was officially called the Super Transporter at first, but the name Beluga became popular and has now been adopted as official. The Beluga’s freight compartment is 7.4 metres in diameter and 37.7 metres long; maximum payload is 47 tons.

Construction began in September 1992, and the first flight took place in September 1994. After 335 hours of test flying, certification was awarded in September 1995.

    The Beluga is one of my all-time favorite planes.
    It is an amazing achievement and just from looking at it you would never guess it was such a capable flier.

  5. oh man is that beluga hideous! Although I’m sure plenty of people would disagree with me, the An225 is awesome. You could raise a family on it!

  7. As the name suggests, this transport aircraft actually resembles a Beluga whale. It is truly one of the weirdest/ugliest planes I have ever seen.
